The 2009 AMA National Karate Championships held at the Ponds Forge Arena in Sheffield at the weekend saw students from The Phoenix Karate Schools return triumphant. Nine students competed and returned with 4 Gold and 8 Bronze awards. The event attracted many competitors from all over Great Britain and Ireland including England Internationals Jack Dixon, European Kata Champion and Ryan Jay, European Kumite Bronze medallist.

Lewis Saunders, Charlie Smith and Frasier Thompson took Gold in the Boys Team Kumite.

A Bronze for the girl’s team of Charlotte Fisher, Sophie Stephenson and Hannah Wheeler-Smith.

Hannah Wheller-Smith; 10-11 girls Kumite NATIONAL CHAMPION.

Frasier Thompson; Bronze in the boys 10-11 Kumite.

Charlie Smith; Bronze in the boys 14-15 section and open weight.

Charlotte Fisher; Bronze in the girls 14-15 section.

James Allan; Bronze in the mens under 67kg Kumite.
